Advanced Characterization Of Infrastructure Materials Lab Acim Mechanics of advanced materials laboratory, located at three different buildings across the campus–north lab, ecsw, and nserl, is home to several research and laboratory facilities that are available to the researchers across ut dallas. Wavelength dispersive bench top xrf able to provide low ppm detection limits for major, minor, and trace elements. in situ imaging – provides nanometer precision positioning and the convenience of spm topography. utilizes crossbeam optics (cbo) enabling fast and easy changing of the incident x rays by substituting selection slits. Our measurement capabilities for chemical compositional characterization are applied to detect elemental signatures, quantify elemental mass, and map its physical distribution. researchers from across nist, industry, academia, government are assisted by the application of state of the art techniques, often uniquely available in our division. Amcc is home to s&t’s diverse suite of advanced materials characterization equipment, including scanning and transmission electron microscopes, high resolution 3d x ray micro computed tomography system, x ray diffractometers, nanoindenter, glow discharge depth profiler, atomic force microscope, x ray photoemission spectrometer, x ray.

Using advanced micro nano analytical techniques and non destructive evaluation, the acim lab provides equipment and computational power for the characterization of aggregates, bitumen, cement, asphalt and cement composites, soil, and other related construction materials. The ud advanced materials characterization lab (amcl) provides opportunities for researchers within the ud community as well as other educational institute and industry. equipment list includes: x ray diffraction, thermal analysis, porosity & particle size, vibration, and mass spectrometry. facility primary contact: gerald poirier. The workshop provides an overview and critical comparison of major analytical techniques for materials characterization (afm, sem, tem, xrd, dsc, raman, xps, etc.) with emphasis on practical applications in engineering and the physical and life sciences. Materials design through efficient covalent linking chemistry, and supports collaboration both locally and nationally (mrfn) – user facility to support ‘outside’ visitors.
